Alexandrite and Nd:YAG: two options, one assessed plan

The Elite MPX provides 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelengths. Alexandrite is commonly considered for lighter skin tones; Nd:YAG may be considered for darker skin tones. Your practitioner selects the wavelength and settings after assessing your skin, hair and treatment area.

Having two wavelengths gives us options; it does not mean every skin and hair combination is suitable or that treatment is risk-free.

Does laser work on light hair?

Laser targets pigment in the hair. Darker, coarser hair generally responds better. Blonde, white, grey and red hair may respond poorly or be unsuitable. We discuss likely benefit honestly before recommending a course.

What results can you expect?

The aim is long-term hair reduction, rather than a promise of permanently hair-free skin. Results vary. A course is usually needed because hairs grow in different cycles, and maintenance may be required. Hormonal influences and the area treated can affect regrowth and the number of sessions.

Consultation, comfort and risks

We review your skin and hair, medical history, medicines and recent tanning, and explain preparation, patch testing and aftercare. A patch test helps assess skin response but cannot rule out all complications. Cooling helps manage discomfort, although heat, stinging or a snapping sensation may still be felt.

Temporary redness, swelling and tenderness can occur. Risks include burns, blistering, pigment changes, infection and scarring. Your practitioner discusses the risks relevant to you so that you can make an informed decision.
